The Internet Governance Forum (IGF)’s first-ever support to journalists from the Global South is an initiative to promote insightful, balanced, and impactful journalism on digital governance and its dynamics, as they are discussed at the IGF. It aims to attract journalists from the Global South who have experience with digital issues to cover the 19th Annual IGF on “Building Our Multistakeholder Digital Future”, scheduled for 15-19 December 2024 in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Recognizing the critical role of journalism in shaping the global digital discourse, this initiative seeks to amplify Global South voices. Selected journalists will have the opportunity to highlight key issues such as digital inclusion, cybersecurity, data governance, digital economy, human rights online, and the ethical implications of emerging technologies. The initiative is supported by the IGF Secretariat and subject to availability of funding.

Eligibility:

1. Participants must be nationals of Least Developed Countries (LDCs)Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs)Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Low Income Countries (LICs)Lower Middle Income Countries (LMICs) or Economies in Transition [p.135] and at least 18 years old.

2. Participants must be currently employed or freelancing as a journalist with at least three years of experience in journalism, including coverage of tech or digital issues, working for a recognized media outlet or freelancing, whose work has been regularly published by a recognized media outlet.

A flagship program of the Evans School at the University of Washington, IPPHL expands the policy and leadership acumen of leaders to develop and implement lasting public policy solutions and transform health systems. The curriculum emphasizes the foundations of policy analysis, evidence and evaluation, implementation, and personal leadership development.

  • Mid-career public health professional from Africa, working in government, for a government initiative/partner, or entity at the federal, regional, state, or provincial level 
  • Responsible for managing public health program(s) with supervisory responsibilities, either individual staff or a team; Accountable for the performance of public health programs and/or for managing front-line health workers 
  • Holds a degree related to public health or  is a medical professional 
  • A citizen and resident of a country in Africa

Program Details

Participation & Commitment

If accepted, you will be required to attend all live virtual and in-person components of the program including completing prep work for the session. See estimated time(s) below:

  • Orientation – virtual live sessions (February 25, 26, 27: 4 – 5:30 pm GMT): Introduction to the IPPHL program and your cohort, the policy project, executive leadership coaches, and the global IPPHL Network.
  • Independent Policy Prep – self-paced online preparation for sessions and policy project (March 3 – 28)
  • Policy Intensive – virtual live sessions (April 8 – May 22, every Tuesday and Thursday: 4 pm—5:30 pm GMT): An average of 5-7 hours per week on programmatic assignments, such as reading case studies and articles, completing self-assessments, meeting with their executive coach and faculty advisor, and participating in the live online sessions
  • Leadership Immersion – in person in Seattle, WA, USA (June 11 – June 28):  2.5 weeks of experiential learning, workshopping, networking, and individual leadership development. Full attendance is required.
  • Launch & Learn – independent policy project work; virtual touchpoints (July 22-August 19: Select Tues; 4pm-5:30pm GMT): Fellows begin applying the leadership, implementation, and policy frameworks in their places of work. The cohort convenes for four 90-minute sessions to check-in on progress with colleagues. Fellows finalize their written policy projects during these six weeks.
  • Capstone Seminar – TBD, West Africa (September 1 – 6): The cohort convenes in-person for the final after-action to assess progress and strategize how to move projects, agendas, and teams forward. Full attendance across all days is required.

  • IPPHL makes every effort to cover most direct costs associated with the program, including lodging and airfare for the two-week Seattle Residency and Capstone Seminar. Participants are responsible for covering certain costs, such as visa fees and internet and will receive limited financial support for these expenses either during or after the completion of the program.

Applications are now open for the 2025/2026 Gates Cambridge Scholarship Programme. The Gates Cambridge Scholarship Programme was established in October 2000 by a donation of US$210m from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to the University of Cambridge; this is the largest ever single donation to a UK university. The first class of scholars came into residence in October 2001. Since then, the Trust has awarded over 2,000 scholarships to scholars from more than 100 countries.

Each year Gates Cambridge offers c.80 full-cost scholarships to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. Approximately two-thirds of these awards will be offered to PhD students, with approximately 25 awards available in the US round and 55 available in the International round.

Requirements

You can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship if you are:

  • a citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom
  • applying to pursue one of the following courses at the University of Cambridge:
    • PhD (full-time or part-time*)
    • MLitt (full-time)
    • One year postgraduate course (full-time), with some exceptions – see below

* For October 2024 entry, Gates Cambridge is continuing to pilot a scheme which allows applicants to apply for funding for a part-time doctoral degree (PhD).

Funding

A Gates Cambridge Scholarship covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge. It also provides additional, discretionary funding.

Core components

  • the University Composition Fee at the appropriate rate*
  • a maintenance allowance for a single student (£21,000 for 12 months at the 2024-25 rate; pro rata for courses shorter than 12 months) – for PhD scholars the award is for up to 4 years
  • one economy single airfare at both the beginning and end of the course
  • inbound visa costs & the cost of the Immigration Health Surcharge

Discretionary components

The Trust also considers applications for several types of additional funding on a discretionary basis:

  • Academic development funding – from up to £500 to up to £2,000, dependent on the length of your course, to attend conferences and courses.
  • Dependent Children Allowance – up to £11,604 for one child and up to £16,548 for two or more children (2023-24 rate). No funding is provided for a partner.
  • Fieldwork – you may apply to keep up to your normal maintenance allowance while on fieldwork as part of your PhD (the Trust does not fund other fieldwork costs as these should be funded by the University Composition Fee).
  • Maternity/Paternity funding – should you require it, you may apply to intermit your studies for up to 6 months and continue to receive your maintenance allowance during this time
  • Hardship funding – for unforeseen difficulties facing the scholar

The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) based in
Arusha, Tanzania is one in a network of Pan-African Institutions of Science and Technology
located across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The Institution has received approval by the
Government of Tanzania through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology
(MoEST) for students who intend to study at NM-AIST in the fields of Science, Technology,
Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to receive full sponsorship from the Samia
Scholarship Programme at a rate of 100% according to the NM-AIST fee structure.

Applications are now open for the Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Fellowships. The Faculty for the Future program, launched in 2004, awards fellowships to women from developing and emerging economies to pursue PhD or Post-doctoral research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields at leading universities worldwide. The Schlumberger Foundation is committed to gender parity in science and recognizes that full access to and participation in a STEM curriculum is essential for the empowerment of women and girls.

By facilitating STEM research for women scientists in emerging economies, scientific and technological advances will be enhanced in the local communities and regions from where selected candidates are awarded for this program. Since its launch in 2004, 863 women from 90 countries have received Faculty for the Future fellowships to pursue PhD and Post-doctoral research in STEM in leading universities and research institutes outside of their home country.

Eligibility Requirements

You are eligible if: 

  • you are a female and are a citizen of a developing country or emerging economy where women are underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. You are not eligible to apply if you hold secondary citizenship from a developed country. (N.B. If you have been awarded a Faculty for the Future grant and after the award you obtain citizenship of a developed country, the grant will be discontinued as of the date of such additional citizenship);
  • you are preparing for PhD or postdoctoral studies in STEM. The Faculty for the Future program does not fund Master level studies;
  • you are currently enrolled, have been admitted to or have applied to a host university/research institute abroad (applications are no longer accepted where a candidate has not yet applied to a university). If you are applying for a sandwich PhD the final degree must be awarded by the Host University abroad (i.e., but not solely from the home country university);
  • hold an excellent academic record;
  • are willing to go back to your home country or region upon completion of your studies to contribute to its socio-economic development;

Selection Process

The selection process includes five rounds:

  • First Round: Is based on compliance with eligibility criteria such as country of origin, discipline and overall quality of application. Non-compliant applications are eliminated.
  • Second Round: The first shortlist is reviewed based on scoring of the following criteria:

    • quality of references
    • scientific interest of research proposal
    • commitment to teaching

ROLE PURPOSE: 

The Supply Chain Officer [Buying or Sourcing] is responsible for the procurements of goods and services within Country and Area Office based on needs of Save the Children’s programmes, managing requests and relations for a complex portfolio of programmes. The Supply Chain Officer will also support the SCI Senior Supply Chain manager in supply market research and analysis, running quotations / tenders and setting up Contracts or Framework Agreements for key supplies and services to ensure value for money is achieved through best in sector sourcing strategies and Procurement processes.

 Supply Chain Officer will oversee procurement, warehousing, fleet and management in their respective regions. As an integral member of the Area Management Team, the Supply Chain Officer will provide day-to-day Supply Chain support to the programme by undertaking technical and practical operational tasks to ensure smooth, safe and efficient operation of logistical activities.

  • Monitor performance of procurement teams as well as suppliers and ensure that measures are in place to deal with delays and non-performance.
  •  Ensure that Framework Agreements are well managed and maintained, and regularly updated.  

Inventories and Stock Management

  • Ensure that all procured materials are properly stored and recorded and that all warehouse policies conform to SCI policies and procedures.
  • Perform regular spot checks to ensure that the movement of inventories to or from the warehouses is accurately documented; authorised and necessary paper work is done as per procedure.
  • Ensure that warehouse staff record movement of supplies in Total Inventory Management (TIM) and that the data in TIM matches with the with physical stock balances
  • In coordination with Senior Supply Chain manager, ensure monthly Stock expired under SOF report and technical guidance to programs
  • Train warehouse staff as required in managing and documenting the receipt, handling, storage, release and reporting of Programme supplies as well as Gift in Kind that come through the SCI warehouse(s).
  • Responsible for timely consolidation of monthly inventories, checking its accurateness and sharing it with Senior Supply Chain Manager and the relevant programme staff 

 

 

Fleet Management 

  • In coordination with Fleet Officers, responsible for the Management of vehicles and motorcycle fleets in line with Save the Children International standards.
  • Serve as a focal point for vehicle rental contracted supplier and issue Purchase Orders for vehicle rentals per program needs. 
  • Put in place a system to brief drivers and ensure that they follow SCI regulations and policies. 

Filing and Reporting 

  • Implement standard Save the Children Supply Chain procedures systems in each office and train other supply chain staff for creating and using the e – filing system and on share point.
  • Coordinate with Senior Supply Chain manager to ensure that monthly Supply Chain reports are produced and disseminated on time. 
  • Ensure that all paper work is kept according to the policies and procedures of the organisation and filed neatly with supporting documents in respective files. 

Systems, Tools and Processes

  • Promote and ensure compliance to our Procurement Policy,        Procedures and quality standards
  • Provide ProSave support and procurement advice for  requesters. 
  • Support the Senior Supply Chain manager in the review and update of price lists,  supplier information/ vetting and specification of goods and services in ProSave
  • Support the Senior Supply Chain manager in turning Framework Agreements and Contracts into online catalogues in ProSave that staff can order from directly
  • Working with the supply base to ready them/support them for sourcing and ordering through ProSave

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent in relevant field.
  • A level of professional certification CIPS or any other equivalent in Supply Chain Management is an added advantage
  • Progressive 3-5 years of experience in leadership handling Supply Chain in an INGO.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Must have strong  reporting, communication skills, and excellent computer skills in MS Word & Excel.
  • Experience in use of Enterprise Resource Management Systems (E- Procurement, Inventory management and Fleet management systems).

Save the Children is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the position of Supply Chain Coordinator for the Country office, Lilongwe. The Supply Chain Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the purchasing of goods and services within the Malawi Country Programme based on SCI’s programme needs, managing orders and relations for a complex portfolio of programmes. The Supply Chain Coordinator will also support the Senior Supply Chain Manager in:

  • Ensuring that the right supplies and services are procured and that there is timely procurement and delivery of goods and services to programmes to deliver outstanding results for children

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

In order to be successful you will bring/have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics, procurement, management, business or public administration and/ or Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) or equivalent/related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience working in procurement, preferably in an NGO/and/or development program, with in depth experience in managing procurement processes 
  • Strong knowledge and experience of implementing procurement processes, driving contract compliance and embedding buying best practice
  • Excellent supplier management skills and a strong ability to hold suppliers accountable to deliver on their responsibilities
  • Knowledge of NGO/ Donor policies and their compliance requirements in respect of Procurement and wider supply chain activity
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks with competing priorities and simultaneously stick to deadlines, whilst maintaining relationships with suppliers and customers
  • Excellent reporting skills, particularly the ability to quickly develop clear and concise delivery tracking, scheduling or pricing, donor, monthly KPI reports
  • Willingness to undertake field travel as required and work in difficult environments according to travel environments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; Fluency in spoken and written English; knowledge of local language is highly preferred
